I’ve been using increasing layers of glazes in developing translucence and depth in my land and seascapes. This technique, as well as adding depth, gives a slightly ethereal quality to the art work, particularly in the early evening light. But! They do take time to dry and need patience as each layer is considered and applied – I have experimented with between 10 & 20 layers, building on colours & colour combinations, levels of pigment in the medium, and water content. I frequently apply them on the floor, carefully stepping around the canvas as I work on another piece to allow drying time. The finished piece has all the reward one requires to inspire the next piece!
